actually, i grew up in a family where everyone else ate meat, but i still became vegetarian when i was five and then later vegan because i care about animals. and thinking about it, every vegan that i know comes from a family that eats meat. i know that it can seem hard to be veg when your family isn't, but it's worth it for the animals, and gets easier. something that can help is to become more involved in the cooking, share the reasons that you care about being veg with your family, and find good veg recipes that your whole family can enjoy (vegcooking.com is a great site for recipes). i encourage you to check out our page for lots of veg info and resources and i hope that you'll see that caring about animals needs to be extended to the food that we eat. just elt me know if you ever have any questions and i hope you'll talk to your family as well. amanda
